THE  PERFORMANCE
about
THE PROJECT

The Closest Farthest Away is a live performance created by filmmakers, theater artists, and musicians from the US and Cuba who use cinema and live performance to cross impossible boundaries between blockaded countries. All Cuban characters and locations were filmed in Havana and are projected onto a stage via multi-channel video installation to interact with American performers. This process driven social and artistic experiment is conceived by the generation of artists who will decide the destiny of both countries. The live performance was world premiered at the Havana Film Festival last December and then crossed the border for a US premier on Miami Beach this March 11 - 13, 2010. This project is made possible by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Project Troubador, many small grants, and a grassroots movement of over one hundred private individuals.
